Glenn Cooke with Randy, a black German Shepherd

Glenn Cooke is an Australian dog trainer and canine behaviour specialist with more than 35 years’ experience helping dogs and their handlers. His work spans family pet training, complex behaviour and aggression, professional trainer education, working dogs, canine sport and consultation with government organisations.

Glenn’s approach begins with understanding the individual dog, the handler and the environment in which the behaviour occurs. Rather than reducing dog training to slogans or a single ideology, he considers how learning, genetics, motivation, handling, consequences and lived experience interact. This allows him to develop practical strategies suited to the dog and the people responsible for its care.

Dog training and behaviour experience

Glenn works with owners facing a wide range of training and behaviour challenges, from everyday family-dog problems to serious aggression and reactivity. His experience includes assisting owners whose dogs are subject to council declarations, restrictions or other complex safety concerns.

These cases require more than teaching basic obedience. Glenn assesses risk, management, handler capability, environmental pressures and the reasons maintaining the behaviour. His objective is to help owners make informed decisions while improving safety, communication and the dog’s ability to function successfully within the family and community.

Learning, development and professional education

As the Learning and Development Officer for Pet Resorts Australia, Glenn helps build the knowledge and capability of staff working across a multi-state network of professional pet-care facilities. His work includes developing learning programmes, improving staff understanding of canine and feline behaviour, supporting safe animal handling and translating behavioural principles into practical standards for everyday pet care.

Glenn holds a Diploma of Training Design and Development and has spent many years training, lecturing and mentoring people who want to become professional dog trainers. He remains committed to continuing education and encourages trainers to think critically, assess evidence carefully and remain open to improving their methods.

He is also a judge for the Protection Sports Association and has experience in working-dog development, detection, law-enforcement applications and canine sport. His consulting work includes supporting government organisations and contributing specialist knowledge to complex canine behaviour and safety matters.

The Canine Paradigm podcast

Glenn co-hosts The Canine Paradigm with Pat Stuart. Since launching in 2017, the podcast has developed an international audience through candid conversations about dog training, behaviour, welfare, ethics, professional practice and the wider canine industry.

Glenn brings decades of practical experience to the show, along with a willingness to examine difficult and sometimes controversial subjects from multiple perspectives. The objective is not to tell listeners what they must believe, but to encourage clearer thinking and a deeper understanding of dogs, training and human behaviour.

Supporting canine wellbeing

Glenn is also a strong supporter of Canine Ceuticals, the canine supplement company founded by his wife, canine nutritionist Narelle Cooke. He believes that training and behaviour should be considered alongside the wellbeing of the whole dog, including nutrition, recovery, comfort and stress.

Canine Ceuticals provides carefully developed supplements for owners who want to take a considered approach to supporting their dogs. Its products are designed to complement appropriate nutrition, veterinary care, training and behaviour support rather than replace them.

Dog owners can explore the Canine Ceuticals range and Narelle’s specialist guidance to learn which products may be appropriate for their individual dog.

Beyond dog training

Glenn is based in New South Wales. Away from dogs and podcasting, he enjoys motorcycles, playing guitar and diving with sharks. He also maintains a long-standing ambition to learn to fly a helicopter.
